Puppy training
First things first! Before obedience and dragging your dog by the collar, the puppy you bring home needs to be, if he isn't already, acclimated properly to things before obedince training. Puppies are small babies and they need time to be a kid too. My puppies, after brining them home, are allowed to breathe an relax a while (a few days) or longer before obedience or leash training.
The dog is however taught manners, to not jump up on us, and to not bit us hard or aggressively - we need to assert ourselves as pack leader.
We need to also let the dogs get used to being home and where home is as they are tressed after being removed from thier mothers and all they've eevr known.
I will be keeping puppies until 3 mos of age to allowe priper developement and reduce anxiety as other trainers (Leerburg) do. This also helps us show thier true temperment a little more by waiting. Sire it's a lot of extra work and some expense, but makes more sense. Some dogs make be kept until 6 mos or years for training before they are sold here.
Anyways back to training...
Puppies are taught to be around kids - which can be a tough one at times. Some of these dogs may or may not do well with kids. Never leave these dogs alone with children. They are not pets, they are tools- working dogs with a purpose, not a pomeranian for the couch.
Puppies are given the proper chew toys to be kept busy. Puppies here are allowed to run free for 3-5 hrs on 5 acres supervised on most days. They are also given a partially raw meat diet.
They are taught about electric fence at some point also. This is a cheap although high maintennce fencing system for acreages that is far less expensive and easier to put up.
Dogs will also be exposed to sheep, a cat possibly, children, and eventually later on I will start leash training...then they will be taken to the store and town to get used to all kinds of noises and people to get desesitized, this is so important for the dogs.
